The new USDA Food Guide Pyramid recommends 6-11 servings from the rice, bread, cereal and pasta group each day. Rice is part of a solid foundation for a healthy diet. Rice is used for a variety of non-food products. The inedible rice hull is used as fuel, fertilizer, and insulation, while the straw from the leaves and stems is used as bedding for animals and for weaving roofs, hats, baskets, and sandals.
Rice Terminology
Rice (Oryza Sativa): A semi-aquatic member of the grass family. Its edible seed is the staple grain for over half the world's population.
